Author
Cate is a cyclist, adventurer, business coach, and chronic illness advocate whose story is one of resilience, reinvention, and radical self-belief. Her journey hasn’t followed a straight path, in fact, it’s been full of detours, steep climbs, and unexpected challenges, but she’s found purpose and passion in places she never imagined.
Several years ago, Cate received a life-changing diagnosis that turned her world upside down. Seemingly overnight, her once-active body began behaving in unfamiliar and unpredictable ways. What followed was a confronting and often isolating experience, as she navigated the grief of lost abilities, the confusion of managing a new normal, and the overwhelming uncertainty of what life would look like moving forward.
But Cate has never been one to stay down for long.
As she came to terms with her diagnosis, she began to slowly reconnect with one of her first loves: cycling. At first, it was just short rides, gentle rolls through her neighbourhood, testing the limits of her body and re-learning what it could do. But what started as a tentative step back into movement quickly became a lifeline. On the bike, Cate found freedom. The wind in her face and the rhythm of the pedals became a form of therapy, both physical and emotional. Every ride reminded her that her body, though changed, was still powerful.
Cycling reignited something in her. It wasn’t long before she set herself a bold goal: to cycle across Vietnam. That journey not only cemented her love for bike travel but also gave her a glimpse of what might be possible beyond the limits her diagnosis had tried to impose. It wasn’t just a holiday or a challenge, it was a statement. A declaration. A way of showing herself (and the world) that she could still do incredible things.
Since then, Cate has become known for setting big, audacious goals, none bigger than her current mission: to ride around the entire continent of Australia. Yes, the whole country. It’s a huge undertaking for anyone, let alone someone living with a chronic illness. But Cate isn’t interested in playing small. She’s taking on this adventure not just for herself, but to raise awareness, spark conversations, and show what’s possible when disabled and chronically ill people are supported to thrive.
While her wheels are often in motion, Cate’s impact goes far beyond cycling.
She is also a passionate business coach, working primarily with women and non-binary folks living with chronic illness or disability. Through her coaching, Cate helps others build sustainable, values-aligned businesses that honour their bodies, energy, and lived experience. She knows firsthand how isolating it can feel to run a business while managing symptoms, fatigue, and flares, and she’s made it her mission to be the kind of support she wishes she’d had early on.
Cate rejects hustle culture in favour of something gentler, wiser, and more sustainable. Her coaching is grounded in radical acceptance, compassionate boundaries, and building in rest as a non-negotiable. She encourages her clients to define success on their own terms, whether that’s working a few hours a week, building a thriving online brand, or simply finding joy and purpose again.
In both her riding and her business, Cate is deeply committed to storytelling. She believes that sharing real, raw stories about living with chronic illness is essential to shifting the narrative. Too often, disabled and chronically ill people are either erased from mainstream conversations or portrayed in ways that are either overly tragic or relentlessly inspirational. Cate isn’t here for either extreme, she’s here for the messy middle. The real-life stuff. The flare-ups and the finish lines. The rest days and the record-breaking rides.
She’s not interested in pretending everything is easy, because it’s not. There are plenty of hard days. Days when the symptoms win. Days when the emotional weight of it all feels like too much. But Cate continues to show up, not because she’s trying to be brave, but because this is her life, and she refuses to live it on anyone else’s terms.
Cate is an open book, happy to share both the wins and the wobbles, and her openness has created a deep connection with her community. Whether she’s rolling through a remote stretch of highway, cheering on one of her coaching clients, or posting a vulnerable update on social media, Cate brings honesty, humour, and a fierce commitment to doing things differently.
When she’s not on the bike or behind her laptop, you can probably find Cate enjoying a slow coffee, reading a good book, or planning her next wild adventure. She’s curious, courageous, and constantly learning how to navigate the world in a body that doesn’t always cooperate, but that doesn’t stop her from dreaming big and chasing those dreams hard.
Cate’s story is a powerful reminder that life after diagnosis isn’t the end, it’s just a different kind of beginning. Through her rides, her coaching, and her unwavering advocacy, she’s carving out space for people living with chronic illness to live full, joyful, ambitious lives.
She’s not waiting to be “better” before she goes after the things that light her up, and she encourages others to do the same.

When Cate Green was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, life as she knew it began to unravel. Her once-active body became unreliable, her independence slipped away, and fear crept in. The most terrifying moment came one morning at exactly 2:33 am, when she woke to find herself suddenly paralysed-unable to move her limbs, gripped by confusion, panic, and an overwhelming sense of loss. It marked the beginning of a gruelling journey of rehabilitation, grief, and gradual rebuilding.
But Cate has never been one to back down from a challenge.
Rather than surrender to her diagnosis, she chose to do something radical: to ride. Not just around the block or to reclaim a bit of strength-but to cycle solo across the entire state of Victoria. With her trusty bike Sheeba, Cate set off to reconnect with her body, her spirit, and the world around her, one pedal stroke at a time.
Vic Ride is part memoir, part travelogue, and all heart. Through open country roads, coastal winds, and hill climbs that tested her limits, Cate brings us along for every high and low. She documents the raw reality of living with an invisible disability-the physical setbacks, emotional breakdowns, moments of beauty and connection, and the inner battle to keep showing up even when everything hurts.
But this is not just a book about cycling. It's about learning to trust your body again when it has betrayed you. It's about embracing the unpredictable nature of chronic illness with courage and curiosity. It's about redefining strength-not as pushing through at all costs, but as knowing when to rest, when to persist, and how to keep going, even if the path looks nothing like you imagined.
Along the way, Cate discovers the unexpected kindness of strangers, the healing power of solitude, and the unbreakable thread of community that holds her-often when she doesn't even realise she needs it. With humour, fierce honesty, and soul-deep insight, she shows that grace often finds us in the messy middle of things: on wind-blown hillsides, in quiet country towns, and in the quiet triumph of just getting back on the bike.
Vic Ride is an unforgettable journey through pain, purpose, and personal growth. It's for anyone who's ever felt broken, lost, or limited by circumstance, and anyone who's dared to dream of something more. Cate's story is proof that when life knocks you sideways, you don't have to stay down. Sometimes, the road back to yourself is paved with two wheels, a lot of grit, and an unshakable belief that your story isn't over yet.
