Gary Allen

Gary Allen's story begins in an ordinary council house in South East England during the 1980s. An unengaged student, he left school with poor grades, including failing his A Level in Government and Politics. Ironically, he would later build a successful career as a political staffer and speechwriter in Canberra, Australia.

Following the Australian Labor Party's defeat in the 1996 federal election, and the loss of his employer's parliamentary seat, Gary transitioned into the Australian university sector, where he worked for more than two decades. During this time, he completed a doctorate, received an award for his research, and established himself as an internationally recognised consultant.

After being diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, Gary channelled his experience into advocacy, becoming a respected voice for disability inclusion and co founding an award winning not for profit disability charity.

Gary's connection to Wales runs deep. His late nan and mother were born in Wrexham, North Wales, and his family has passionately supported Wrexham AFC since the days of his great grandfather. That lifelong connection to the club has become an enduring source of identity, hope and belonging.

In this book, Gary shares his often humorous and deeply personal journey. He explores his unwavering love of Wrexham AFC, his pride in his Welsh heritage, and his belief in the transformative power of disability entrepreneurship. Along the way, he offers practical insights into thriving with disability, embracing who you are, and living life with courage, resilience and a true spirit of moxie.
