Jillian Annand has loved horses for as long as she can remember. Growing up in Victoria, Australia, she spent many weekends at the races with her father, sparking her lifelong fascination with Thoroughbreds and the unique bond between horses and humans. As a teenager, she immersed herself into pony club and horse riding before the demands of full-time work took her in a different direction.
During the COVID pandemic and after being diagnosed with cancer, Jillian decided life was too short not to follow the passions she had carried since childhood. She purchased her first Off the Track Thoroughbred, a bay gelding named Henry, whose personality, heart, and journey would go on to inspire her debut novel.
Written from Henry’s perspective and inspired by real-life events, Jillian’s storytelling blends warmth, honesty, humour, and emotional insight into the world of retired racehorses and the people who love them. Through Henry’s voice, she hopes readers will discover the intelligence, sensitivity, and spirit of these remarkable horses.
