Patricia Lyons
Author
She is a married mother of three—one in heaven and two here on earth. From a young age, she had a love for writing poetry, often creating heartfelt verses for Mother’s Day and birthday cards. While she never imagined producing work of this quality or volume, writing has always been a meaningful outlet for her. One of her greatest passions is helping others. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and stepping back from more physically demanding pursuits, she discovered that her poetry remained untouched by the condition. Through her words, she continues to support and uplift others, channelling her enduring passion in a powerful and creative way.
BOOKS AUTHORED BY PATRICIA

Grieving for My Baby is a powerful and deeply moving collection of poems written by Patricia Lyons following the death of her first child, Levi. With raw vulnerability and heartfelt honesty, Patricia gives voice to the often unspoken pain of losing a child. Her poetry captures the emotional landscape of grief-its confusion, despair, longing, and, ultimately, the glimmers of healing.
This book is not just for those who have experienced the devastating loss of a baby, but for anyone who has grieved deeply. Whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, or the death of a child at any stage, the words in this collection offer comfort, companionship, and understanding. They articulate what so many struggle to say and provide solace to those who feel alone in their sorrow.
Some poems in this collection were gifted to Patricia by others walking their own grief journeys, and they are included here as part of the tapestry of shared sorrow and support. Over the years, Grieving for My Baby has become a valuable resource for grief counsellors, support workers, and loved ones trying to better understand and care for someone in mourning.
Poems from this book have been published in Red Nose (formerly SIDS-NSW) newsletters with permission, and the original edition, first published in 2001, was used in the training of SIDS-NSW grief counsellors.
This updated edition continues to provide a safe space for reflection and healing. It is a book to return to again and again-on days when the pain is overwhelming and on days when hope feels possible.
Grieving for My Baby is a timeless companion for anyone walking through the darkness of grief and searching for light.
