Paul Bird
Author
After running an airline in West Africa, being shelled in Bosnia, building basketball courts in the Philippines, confronting child soldiers in East Africa and negotiating with warlords in earthquake-ravaged northern Pakistan, Paul returned to Australia to continue fighting for social and environmental justice with a range of charities and their Boards. He published his first book in 2021- PurposeFull. How businesses and not-for-profits do better as purpose-driven organisations.
In a compassionate, fair-go and wealthy country, Paul can’t accept that we are failing to make headway in our social and environmental challenges, causing unnecessary suffering and loss of opportunity and potential. His quest is to invite you to learn more, find your purpose and passion and make a (or more of) lasting impact to achieve real change.
He is married to the beautiful Tracey and has three awesome adult children - Georgie, Stephen and India.
BOOKS AUTHORED BY PAUL

Every day, whether you realise it or not, you shape the world around you.
In a time where social and environmental crises are growing, trust in charities is declining, and people feel overwhelmed by where to start, this book cuts through the noise. It challenges the way we think about giving, impact, and real change.
Paul Bird draws on over 30 years of experience working across homelessness, mental health, disability, education, and social enterprise, this book exposes the gaps, the myths, and the uncomfortable truths about how change really happens. It goes beyond good intentions and emotional appeals to show what actually works.
This is not just a book about charity. It is a guide to purposeful action.
You will learn how to:
Understand the real issues behind the headlines
Choose causes that align with your values
Navigate the complex world of charities and giving
Move beyond short-term fixes to create lasting impact
Find meaning, purpose, and fulfilment through contribution
Because real change does not come from doing more.
It comes from doing what matters, better.
This book is your invitation to step forward, take action, and be the change.
