Ryan Guilfoyle
Author
Ryan was born and raised in a small town in Far North Queensland and always loved to write stories as a child.
Like country kids in a small town, he played many sports, particularly cricket and hockey.
He started playing cricket when he was 5 years old and his dad still remembers the day, he informed him “He would never make a duck in cricket”. While admiring his confidence, his dad tried to caution him to lessen the blow, by referring to the legendary Don Bradman and the fact that even he got a duck. The inevitable duck reared its head, sooner rather than later.
When he was 14, Ryan broke his leg playing cricket and this was the catalyst of his creative journey. During his recovery, he taught himself to play the guitar and started to write songs and music.
Ryan still resides in Far North Queensland where he is a devoted partner, and father to his son and Blue Heeler Margo. He continues to create music and still enjoys watching cricket.
“The Golden Duck” is his first book, though he has expressed that he has many more story ideas, which he hopes to share in the future.
Why we chose to publish Ryan’s book….
Ryan has always been very creative with writing music, but to be honest, we were a little surprised when he said he’d written a children’s book.
Ryan gave us the handwritten copy, and we thought it was a fantastic storyline with a beautiful message, that would resonate with both children and families. Ryan’s Dad still remembers the day Ryan said he would never get a duck and telling him even Don Bradman got a duck. We thought that the book was something special.
With the demands of a young family, mortgage and work pressures Ryan would not be able to have the book published.
We felt strongly that the story deserved to be brought to life for all to enjoy and Ryan should be rewarded for his creativity and talents.
In life, there are many moments where you pass a partly opened window and must make a choice to open it completely or close it. We knew that if we didn’t open this window now, it may never happen.
